Quality control

Quality control

In Zeeland the swimming water is checked at 55 places. These are the places were most swimmers stay. The measurements are conducted from the 15th of May till the 15th of September, with a regularity of once two weeks. During these measurements, the water gets checked on bacteria, transparency, pollution, foam, oil and blue alga.

If the quality of the water exceeds the legal standards, the province of Zeeland will take necessary steps. Depending on the deviation, the province will advise against swimming or it will establish a swimming prohibition. If the last one is the case, it will be announced on signs, present at the swimming location. Besides announcements, the outcome of inspections will also be published in national/regional newspapers.

This site holds all the controlled swimming locations. If measurements are necessary, they will be announced. The performers of the measurements are Rijkswaterstaat Zeeland and the two Zeeuwse water companies. All the 55 places in Zeeland, where the inspections are being conducted, are recognizable by the information signs, which show the number of the swimming water phone. In assigning the blue flag, the quality of the swimming water plays important criteria.
